Via Mundi’s primary goal is to create a unique niche within the Atlanta art scene that will provide a venue for the promotion and exposure of African art. While there are galleries in the Southeast that exhibit contemporary African and African-American artists, Via Mundi’s idea to show contemporary and traditional works simultaneously is unprecedented. Through this distinctive twofold approach, the gallery offers an in-depth look at the roots of the African tradition and its exploration, development or reinvention in the creative endeavors of the continent’s twenty-first century artistic minds.

Via Mundi functions not simply as an exhibition gallery, but also a dynamic space where traditional Africa confronts its redefined cultural and aesthetic identity in the eyes of its visual interpreters, the artists. The gallery’s goal is to promote the art of young aspiring talents who live and create in their homeland, the works of already established artists residing and exhibiting both in Africa and abroad, as well as those of non-African artists whose imagery reflects the life of the continent through non-native eyes. By presenting these vastly different perspectives, Via Mundi offers to the Atlanta art lover a glimpse of the traditions, rituals, history and aesthetic ideals of a continent that holds a multitude of mysteries, both old and new.
